Teeth Cleanings in Dickson, TN

cleanings1-300x200 Professional Teeth Cleanings dentist DicksonRegular professional teeth cleanings are an important part of a well-rounded dental hygiene routine. Hygienists use certain instruments and techniques to reach areas of your mouth that a toothbrush or piece of floss can miss. This can reduce your risk of cavities, periodontal disease, tooth loss and other dental problems. Teeth cleanings can save you valuable time and money in the long run by helping protect your oral health and preventing the need for costly, invasive treatment in the future.

Dental cleanings also promote good overall health, as studies have shown a connection between oral and overall health. Keeping your mouth clean and healthy may lower your risk of certain life-threatening diseases such as heart disease and stroke.

Dr. Dave’s Healthy Smiles is the practice of choice for adults and families seeking teeth cleanings in Dickson or the nearby areas of Tennessee. Our hygienists are known for their friendly, welcoming demeanor and gentle touch. Enjoy the peace of mind that comes from having a clean mouth and a clean bill of health.

What Happens During A Teeth Cleaning?

A teeth cleaning generally takes about an hour and is performed by one of our qualified dental hygienists. Every step will be explained to you so you know what is happening at all times.

Prior to starting the cleaning, your hygienist will inquire about your dental health and general health history. You will be asked whether you have or have had any dental problems and whether you are experiencing any symptoms. If anything has changed in your mouth since your last cleaning, or if you have had dental work done, this is a prime opportunity to let your hygienist know.

After taking a dental health history, the hygienist will start the cleaning. Using a special instrument called a scaler, they will gently scrape each tooth to remove the sticky film called plaque that covers your teeth as well as any areas of hardened plaque, which are known as tartar. They will be able to reach areas between your teeth and along your gumline that a toothbrush and piece of floss may miss during your at-home routine.

Then, they will apply a gritty toothpaste onto a rotating polishing tool and brush each tooth to make the teeth smooth and shiny. The hygienist will end the cleaning by flossing between the teeth and performing a final rinse.

Throughout the cleaning, the hygienist will note any areas that may require some additional attention during your at-home brushing and flossing routine. You can use a mirror to look at the areas of your mouth that need extra help.

At the end of the cleaning, your hygienist will give you valuable tips to improve your at-home hygiene. They may recommend tweaks to your brushing or flossing technique, or suggest toothpastes or mouth rinses that may benefit you.

Plan to have a cleaning every six months to stay on top of your oral health. If you develop any dental problems, you may need to schedule cleanings more frequently.
