Oral Surgery in Dickson, TN

Oral Surgery for a Healthy, Happy Mouth

Restoring your mouth’s health and appearance sometimes requires more invasive treatment. Oral surgery is any surgery performed on the teeth, mouth and/or jaw in order to relieve pain and restore proper function to these areas, while at the same time crafting an aesthetically pleasing smile. At our comfortable, state-of-the-art facility we offer oral surgery for a variety of conditions and disorders.

Why Might You Need Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Impacted teeth
  • Jaw (TMJ) problems
  • Mouth/teeth injuries
  • Conditions requiring tooth extraction
  • Oral cancer
  • Bite problems (malocclusion)
  • Endodontic diseases

Types Of Oral Surgery Procedures

Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction, or removal, is often used when a tooth is impacted, decayed or damaged beyond repair. This type of oral surgery is usually recommended when a tooth cannot be fixed or restored via other types of dental treatments, such as a dental filling or root canal.

Endodontic Surgery

Endodontic surgery describes a series of treatments used to treat damaged dental pulp, root or the bone surrounding it. An endodontic surgical procedure may be needed if a root canal procedure isn’t able to effectively save your tooth. The most common type of endodontic surgery is an apicoectomy, which is a procedure that treats an infection from the root end of the tooth.

Dental Implant Placement

Dental implants are oral appliances with a base that is surgically placed in the jaw, where it fuses with the bone to create a stable structure to which replacement teeth are later attached. Dental implants are an effective, durable solution for replacing one or more missing teeth, as they restore both function and an improved appearance to your mouth.

Jaw/TMJ Correction

Jaw problems, including those related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), are often caused by an irregular bite. Oral surgery is often used to correct a misaligned bite by reconstructing and realigning the teeth in the upper and lower jaws.

Surgical Treatment For Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

When other, non-surgical treatments aren’t successful, your doctor may recommend oral surgery. Surgical procedures used to treat sleep apnea include uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (a surgery that alters the soft palate to prevent airway obstruction), genioglossus advancement (a surgery that tightens the front tongue tendon to prevent the tongue from obstructing the breathing passage) and maxillomandibular advancement (a surgery that moves both jaws forward to open the airway).
